Writing Wizards

Room 5 have been having a great time writing.  We've been working on using adjectives (describing words) in our writing to make our writing more interesting and to 'paint a picture' in the reader's mind. We have been inspired by some fun language experiences - hands-on activities to really get the descriptive language flowing.

Two of our recent experiences were a baking soda volcano, from which we made some creative acrostic poems and later some volcano art, and most recently experiencing the smell, sight and feel of shaving cream on our hands!

Underway for Market Day!

Room 5 are already hard at work in preparation for our school Market Day on the 31st of April.  We have been using our thinking skills, including

 and

to come up with amazing ideas or to adapt ideas we have seen.

As a class, we decided on making Pom Pom Poppers and Galaxies in Jars.

We have been planning, testing and figuring out what we need to make these amazing products for sale.  We've made so many Pom Pom Poppers already, and our Galaxy Jars will follow on afterwards.  We can't wait to sell them to you and others on Market Day!

Check out these photos of us and our work:

Bubbling Over with Kindness

For Random Act of Kindness Day today (1st September) we decided to give the whole school bubbles for free!

We made bubble wands in secret to surprise everyone with, and gave out the bubbles before school and at morning tea time.  It made everyone smile!

Being kind made us feel very happy and awesome.  We had fun too, blowing bubbles and bouncing the bubbles on our gloves.

We gave out RAK'D cards to remind people to pass kindness on.

Term 2, Here We Come!

We've hit the ground running here in Room 5 for Term 2.  Two new class members, science experiments already underway, swimming started, and lots more to look forward to.

Some of our reading groups are working on becoming more confident with how we tackle new words we haven't seen before, and the 'tools' we can use to work things out when we read.  Like with any task, being able to choose the right tool for the job is a crucial skill.  Here's a photo of a group using the tools from our Reader's Toolkit during a reading session.

We've also been learning about health and germs, and had a great time making some 'Monster Germ' art to help decorate the upcoming Book Fair at school. The Book Fair starts on Wednesday so be sure to come on in and check it out!  Here are some of Room 5's  blow-art monster germs:

Globalization

As we continue with our Inquiry, our next questions is:

What do people around the Globe, do the same as us?

We have been looking in books and at video clips on youtube.

We have come up with some initial ideas to answer this question, as you can see on our brainstorm below.

Getting Ready for Market Day

Getting our posters ready

After working out how we were going to display them, we set and waited for our helpers and customers on Market Day.
